Foremarke Young Engineers & Greenpower Formula 24 (electric car races for schools) club was started in November 2000 when we joined the ''Young Engineers Company Partnership Scheme''. This partnership included Staffordshire Setpoint and J.C. Bamford Excavators Ltd (JCB) who provided financial backing and personnel to help us achieve our goals. This partnership terminated in January 2006 due to JCB rationalising their support schemes for schools. Since then, the club has concentrated fully on building and developing race cars to take part in the Greenpower Formula 24 electric car races for schools programme. To date, we have raced four cars, three of which were designed and built at Foremarke.
The cartoons below show no FR-3 as this was scrapped in 2010 when FR-4 became available for racing.

Please note that, subject to sponsors approval, 10% of all financial sponsorship received for the Young Engineers/ Greenpower F24 project will be shared with 'Resurgam', a local charity that helps provide mobility to those that find themselves generally wheelchair bound through illness. This could, for instance, help finance a motorised wheelchair. The motors used in many wheelchairs are shared by all Greenpower cars.

Update: May 2012 Update
Following the Corporate Challenge and Season Opener races at the Silverstone Circuit where the rain and wind were incessant, a very fine day was enjoyed by the team at the Mallory Park circuit near Leicester when the sun shone for most of the day. We managed to keep the cars running for the full four sessions without mishap which is no mean feat for six hours of running time with each car. Gearing strategies were finally sorted and we now know that the batteries can last the full 80 minutes per set.
FR-2 is having a new lightweight roll over hoop made so that we can use the slightly taller driver by increasing the head room by 100mm. This should not affect the aerodynamics too much and using aluminium instead of steel will be some compensation in weight saving.
We are very pleased to report that FR-5M will soon be having a new body shell manufactured for it. This was initiated by parents via the Foremarke Business Network forum that subsequently resulted in a meeting with the Director of Datum, a composites manufacturer in Derby. His company have offered to make the body shell at a cost yet to be determined once final design drawings have been submitted. We are absolutely delighted that this company has taken an interest in helping us move forward our ambitions to get a potential champion on the track. At present, we don’t know what the time scale will be but we would like to get at least one race in before the season ends in September at the Castle Coombe Circuit before the National Finals in October.
We are reliant on sponsorship to keep this activity going into our seventh year so any assistance from parent's companies or commercial connections would be gratefully received!
