Art and Design

At Repton Prep, creative arts subjects are highly valued as an integral part of school life. An education rich in artistic endeavour increases the opportunities for learners to engage as innovative thinkers.

With access to a purpose-built Art and Ceramic Studio, pupils are encouraged to take the opportunity to engage in any number of the 21 creative extra-curricular clubs, from arts and crafts, textiles to jewellery making, there is plenty on offer for pupils. On Saturday mornings the arts also play a vital role in Lower Prep's Repton Plus programme of extended learning opportunities.

Throughout the academic year, Head of Art Mrs Casey, sets multiple art and photography competitions which pupils of all ages can get involved in. This is also supported by external competition entries, where we have national success.

Design and Technology

Design and Technology offers an opportunity to develop greater understanding of the effect of technology and design on the world in which we live through an iterative creative process.

As an extra-curricular extension to D&T, the department offers selected pupils in Years 7 and 8 to enter external design competitions, such as Greenpower and Shell Bright Ideas. For Greenpower, this offers pupils the opportunity to work as a team to design, build and race their own electric car to take part in the national Greenpower F24 Electric Car Races for Schools programme, with the programme aiming to get young people enthusiastic about both science, engineering and design.
