Learning Support

The aim of Learning Support at Foremarke is to provide specialist support for children, together with informing and guiding the teaching staff to help all children reach their full potential.  The support provided can be temporary or permanent.  It may be classroom support or specialist tuition to help overcome a specific difficulty such as dyslexia. A child does not need to have a specific difficulty to receive support. General help in acquiring basic skills, reading, spelling, handwriting, maths or study skills can also be provided.

The Learning Support team consists of specialist trained teachers who plan appropriate intervention tailored to support a child’s specific difficulty, i.e. dyslexia or dyspraxia. These lessons take place either on an individual or paired basis at a suitable time within the school day.  Details of the cost for these lessons can be obtained from the School Office or in the School Prospectus.

Teaching Assistants in Pre-Prep and Learning Support Assistants in Lower/ Upper School work with the teachers, in some lessons, to help children who require support to access the curriculum. The support the Learning Support Assistants give to children in the classroom is a useful communication link for the Specialist Teachers.

All children are monitored for evidence of a specific difficulty. Assessment of a child’s progress, together with teacher or parental concern can lead to a child being screened for a specific difficulty. This can take place at any time during a child’s education. Parents are encouraged to share any concerns they may have.

Parents are encouraged to take an active part in the support their child receives. The Learning Support at Foremarke is an integral part of the school and is well received by the children and parents.
